About Fari

The heart and soul behind every recipe

Fari

Who is Fari?

For over 40 years, Fari has been the heart of our family kitchen. Growing up in a South African Indian household, she learnt to cook from her mother and grandmother — inheriting not just recipes, but a way of bringing people together through food.

Her kitchen is where Cape Malay traditions meet the vibrant spices of the East. Every dish carries the warmth of generations — the aromatic biryanis, the slow-simmered curries, the sweet treats that mark every celebration.

The Handwritten Cards

This project started with a simple idea: Fari's handwritten recipe cards were scattered across notebooks, scraps of paper, and the margins of old cookbooks. Some were fading. Some only existed in her memory.

Her daughter Raeesa set out to digitise them all — photographing each card, decoding the handwriting, testing the measurements, and preserving them here for the whole family to enjoy. Every recipe you see started life as ink on a well-loved card.

What Makes These Recipes Special

These aren't restaurant recipes or trendy meal-prep hacks. They're the dishes that have fed our family through decades of ordinary weeknights and extraordinary celebrations. They're generous with spice, made with love, and designed to bring people together around a table.

From hearty chicken curries and fragrant rice dishes to sweet indulgences and essential sauces — each recipe tells a story of heritage, family, and the simple joy of cooking from the heart.
